The suspected members of a killer-gang arrested early in the week by detectives attached to the Special Anti-Robbery unit, SARS, Ikeja, over series of bank robbery operations in Lagos metropolis have been charged to court and remanded at the maximum prison, Kirikiri, Lagos, Lagos-based Vanguard newspaper is reporting this morning.
However, contrary to reports that four of the arrested suspects were police officers, only two of the suspects were members of the Nigeria Police Force attached to Mobile Police Unit 20, Ikeja, Lagos.
While one of them, a Sergeant, was amongst four of the suspects charged to court last Thursday on a three-count charge of conspiracy, robbery and murder, his colleague-in-crime identified as Corporal Victor Folorunsho, escaped arrest and detectives are currently on his trail.
Others charged to court with the Police Sergeant were a marketing officer attached to a fourth generation bank at Akowonjo identified simply as Shola, a welder called Gabriel and one Ezekiel.
According to the newspaper’s report, the Police Sergeant, Eboma Onyeka, confessed his ignoble role in a series of armed robbery operations in the metropolis, together with the Corporal that is now on the run.
Lagos State Police boss, Yakubu Alkali immediately dismissed the two cops from the force and then directed that they be arraigned in court with other civilians involved in the robberies.
Sources at the Police command headquarters, Ikeja, said the fleeing corporal was undergoing a promotion course when news of his nefarious activities broke. He immediately went underground and has not been seen ever since.
in court on Thursday, the gang members were also charged with murder after the suspects confessed to killing a security guard in one of the banks where they operated around Akowonjo last year.
