The citizens of Nigeria are not slaves to the NPF! Bribery extortion and assault by the police officers in Lagos must stop.
Nigerian police force (NPF), especially in Lagos State has turned into something else these days. We the civilians barely have a say.
It is time they are exposed for the monster they are. Most especially the Area ”H” Division at Ogudu, Ojota and SARS at Ijede Ikorodu (all in Lagos state).
They drive around in private cars harassing people (youths in most cases).
Around the noted areas, Nigerian police officers are notorious for stopping people on the road to harass them.
The police search their preys’ pockets as well as their private belongings like mobile phones, especially Blackberry phones.
They usually take their victims to any close by ATM and forcefully have a look at their account balance.
They’ll subsequently threaten to put them (victims) behind bars if a certain amount of money is not released to them.
The police should respect people’s privacy. They must have a court warrant to gain access to a person’s privacy.
A lot of Nigerian youths are being tortured everyday and are falling victims of extortion in the hands of men of the Nigerian Police Force for no just cause.
A lot of people have lost close friends, family and associates due to the illegal activities of our “so called” Nigerian police officers.
The Nigerian Police Force has now been turned into a business venture (by some hungry elements) where-in they make money everyday from their illegal activities on the streets of Lagos and other parts of Nigeria. One will begin to wonder what the the real functions of the Nigerian Police Force?
I urge the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Commissioner of police and most of all the Governor of Lagos State tackle this issue before it gets out of hand. The police is meant to keep up peace and order in the country and not disorganized our communities and create unrest, sorrow for the citizens of the country.
The police should stop the misuse of their powers. The citizens of Nigeria are not slaves to the NPF! Bribery, extortion and assault by the police officers in Lagos must stop.
